A pilot scheme was introduced in May 2000 to allow victims and their immediate family memebers the opportunity to avail of a beneficial rest away from their usual surroundings, responsibilities and commitments that form part of their everyday life. Due to the success of the pilot scheme, the Fund re-launched the Short Break Scheme on a permanent basis in April 2001. This scheme offers short breaks throughout the UK and Ireland.

Eligibility

The scheme is open to those who have lost a parent, partner or child as a result of the 'Troubles', those who have suffered physical or psychological injury as a direct result of a 'Troubles' related incident and the primary carers of people physically injured in the 'Troubles'. Please note the award of a Short Break is restricted to two breaks per individual.
